Usually we go to movies to escape, to forget about our troubles and get lost in a world of fantasy and wonder. When films challenge us to think about real issues and presents us with challenging viewpoints, it can turn people off. But in “Downstream,” it pays off.
February 4th, 2010 Putting on a play in Newman Auditorium is almost unthinkable. With the tiny, curtainless stage offering little leeway for stage designs and props, the production crew has to embrace minimalism and hope they can convey the scene with the bare essentials. But SRJC’s Theatre Arts Department does more than simply convey the scenes in its latest production, “Stories by Barbara Kingsolver.”
