My Cubby: Student portal paves way for communication

Allyce Ferrua, Staff Writer
Published: October 30, 2008

Santa Rosa Junior College has unveiled a new individualized web portal for students that links them to their student records, campus announcements and student life.

Tentatively called MyCubby, the new portal streamlines student life with links to the essential ingredients of attending SRJC.

The My Records section, for example, offers quick access to a student’s class schedule, academic plans, registration priority and more.

Students can quickly view grades and placement results, pay fees, apply for counseling, fill out petitions to graduate and check prerequisites.

From the student life section, students can look for jobs, housing and scholarships or learn about campus clubs, athletics and student government.

In addition to MyCubby, the school’s entire Student Information System will be updated, beginning Nov. 8.

The new Student Information System uses state-of-the-art software, said Ken Fiore, the new system’s creator.

“The legacy system has served our users well but it no longer has the flexibility to meet our future needs,” Fiore said.

“The website was created as part of a master plan to update all SRJC technology, “Fiori said.

This also includes a staff portal to let staff see their rosters online, add or drop students and post grades.

The new Student Information System developed by Computing Services uses Microsoft Visual Studio Dot Net and SQL Server.

With these new tools, Computing Services is positioned to produce the next generation of our custom Student Information System.

Mycubby is available online through the SRJC’s website.

Students and staff can sign themselves up at http://busapp02.santarosa.edu/portal with their student ID and pin number.
