Traffic tolls to alcohol

Raising Tolls

It seems that most of us are in a jam for cash. It’s no secret with the rising cost of fuel, most of us are left wondering if things are going to ease up.

Fuel isn’t the only thing spiking. The cost of food has gone up as well. But the kick in the pants might as well be the proposed toll increase to the Golden Gate Bridge.

In case you haven’t heard, the toll has been proposed to increase to $7 during peak usage hours. But everything is still up in the air. In a recent article published in the San Francisco Chronicle, board of director member Joanne Sanders said, “The headlines say the bridge toll is going to $7.The bridge toll is not going to $7. For most of the people (FasTrak users), it is going to $5.50 or $6.”

With the economy slumping, raising the bridge toll during congested portions of traffic is a tough pill to swallow.

Hard Work pays off

A few issues back we ran an article written by staff writer Lisa Olivera. For those of you who missed it, She wrote about being abandoned in the woods and being found by a couple. Lisa’s story was featured on the front page Press Democrat on May 11. We at the Oak Leaf are proud that Lisa was able to write such a powerful peace and congratulate her on all her hard work.

Summer Safety

With finals around the corner, we urge you not to lose your head. Remember to get plenty of sleep the night before. Once finals are over you can rejoice in being free from the chains of studying and begin your summer.

Just remember, if you are going to spend your nights partying, use common sense. Always have a designated driver on hand should you choose to drink. You can call a cab because the last thing you want is to wake up in the drunk tank.

One more thing, if you are going to be drinking, be sensible about it. You don’t want to suffer from alcohol poisoning and livers don’t come cheap. Be smart while you drink and keep your clothes on.
